Dog Training DVDs

Of course, everybody wants a dog that sits, heels, and fetches on command – who doesn’t? The reality is though, not everybody can afford the time and money a professional dog school would require. Does this mean you can’t have the ease and luxury of a trained dog? Definitely not! It’s not a privilege but a need that one’s dog should have even the most basic dog manners taught to it. While canine schools are out of the question for most of us, there are many dog training DVDs available for us to use instead.

A dog training DVD is most likely produced and promoted by a professional animal trainer. Having a dog that can “sit!” when told to do so does not make you a professional trainer. The peson usually seen on the video is most probably certified or has gone to an animal/veterinary school to get the required courses for their chosen career. You can also Google and search for good trainers, then check if they have resources available to the public.

If you’re planning to buy one of these products, ask yourself what do you want to teach your dog? If he’s starting from scratch, then look for a video that will cover the fundamental obedience commands. If you need to get particular behavior modification tips; then you might need to search the internet for a site offering an extensive DVD collection. Browse through their offerings per topic and pick out a title that would best serve your doggie training needs.

So where are the places you can look up for these instructional videos? Since there are very few, strong video shops standing nowadays, the best place to look for DVDs is in the internet. Amazon will have a lot of these instructional DVDs to sell. Websites catered specifically for dog lovers usually have a page of product offerings which include training resources. You can also check buy and sell sites for owners who want to give away as a really low price old, used training DVDs – although this may not be the most reliable way to go about it.

Average dog training videos have prices from $20-$50; depending on how many CDs are included in the pack or what other literature it comes with. Some sites will give discounts and gifts thrown in for free if you order right away. If you think that the DVD will be a much referenced tool in training your dog, then you should purchase it as soon as you can. It will be worth it in the long run. However, if you don’t think you really need a certain product and are just enticed by the great bargain, hold off spending on that first. You may have better use for your pet fund.

Owning a well-trained dog does not need to be the most expensive item in your list. With dog training DVDs, it’s more than possible to get a great canine education for the fraction of the fee it might have cost you. You may not be capable of bringing your dog to a dog school – but because of pioneering trainers and technology, the dog can now go to your own home.
