Calculate Income Tax Rate for 2009, 2010
If you would like to calculate your federal income tax rate you will need to determine your filing status first. Your tax rate will be based on your filing status and your taxable income.
The tax rate starts out at 10% and goes up to 35%. As you cross the borderline where the rate changes to a higher rate you are taxed the higher rate only on the amount that went beyond the lower rate.
Do you understand what Im trying to say? For example, if the rate went from 10% to 15% at $10,000 and you had a taxable income of $10,700, you would be taxed 15% only on the $700 that went beyond the $10,000. The first $10,000 would be taxed at 10%.
Estimate Your Tax Rate with the Tax Calculator
You may not be aware of the awesome calculators available to us to estimate our tax rate. My personal favorite is the Tax Calculator at Turbo Tax Online. You can even try it for free. You do not pay unless you print or file your tax return.
Your simply answer basic questions about your life situation and enter in data concerning your income. The first question you will answer is How old are you? You will push a button to choose your filing status and you can also click on a button and slide left or right to answer yes or no. It really is that simple and it will display your refund or tax owed as you answer questions.
Taxable Income
Taxable income is what is left after we have taken all personal exemptions as well as any of the either standard or itemized deductions, including all pre-tax above the line 401K and deductible IRA contributions. Once you have claimed all of the deductions you deserve you will be left with your taxable income. This amount is what your tax rate will be based on.
Death and Taxes
The only things certain in life are death and taxes. I know most of us hate paying taxes with a passion. We have to keep in mind our tax dollars actually do benefit our country for improvements.
All you have to do is visit a third world country where you know their taxes are going right into the pockets of corrupt leadership. We have our share of corrupt power but, for the most part we have a great emergency 911 system, clean water, and safe roads, etc.
